Okra/Ladies Finger stir fry (vendakka mezhukkupuratti/ Vendakka Poriyal/ Bhindhi sabzi)

Okra/ Ladies Finger stir fry (Vendakka mezhukkupuratti or Vendakka poriyal or Bhindhi sabzi) is a simple and tasty Kerala (Indian) style side dish. It is a good recipe for your lunch box menu. Boiled rice, fish curry, vendakka mezhukkupuratti and moru curry is my all-time combo 🙂 Try and enjoy 🙂

Ingredients For Okra/ Ladies Finger stir fry or vendakka mezhukkupuratti

Ingredient Quantity Notes
Okra / Ladies Finger/Bhindi 20 to 25 Chopped Finely Choose young and tender
Onion 1 medium Chopped Finely
Turmeric Powder ¼ teaspoon
Red Chili Powder 1 teaspoon Adjust
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Curry leaves 1 handful
Oil 2 tablespoon I used Coconut oil
Salt to taste

Method For Okra/ Ladies Finger stir fry or vendakka mezhukkupuratti

Okra stir fry kerala style method (640x480)
• Heat oil in a fry pan and pop mustard.
• Add onion and curry leaves.
• Add okra.
• Add a pinch salt, fry them until dry or okra’s stickiness is disappears.
• Cover and cook 2 to 3 minutes in a low flame.
• Uncover the pan, add turmeric, chili powder and required salt. Sauté and mix.
• Spread okra in the pan and fry in a high flame. (do not cover)
• Sauté occasionally.
• When its look light brown and fry in texture, turn off the heat.
• Serve okra stir fry with boiled rice or chappathi.
